Why I love country music
Go ahead, laugh at me, but I like country music. I mean, really, can I help it? Its in my roots and though I have had periods where I have cheated and switched over to listening to pop or soft rock, I have listened to country for most of my life. Any time that I have switched over to listening to rock or pop I get tired of the trashy lyrics about drug, sex, and alcohol because that is all that sells these days, at least in that world. What I have always appreciated about country music is that it is about values such as family, hard work, farm life, etc. Country music has always held respect and acknowledgement for God which I also really appreciate. This point was driven home faster than a Chevy half tonne at supper time last week as I listened to the Jeff Foxworthy countdown. I was surprised to hear a song by Josh Turner called Me and God (see lyrics below). Although a lot of songs mention God, this song outright acknowledges God as an important part of everyday life. I was shocked to hear this, especially in light of the fact that we live in a society where prayer has been banned from schools and where tolerance for all different religions is expected. It just once again reinforced why I will always love country. You will find the lyrics below and if you happen to like country music you can go to this website to listen to the song.
"Me And God"
Josh Turner (feat. Ralph Stanley)
There ain't nothing that can't be done
By me and God
Ain't nobody come in between me and God
One day we'll live together
Where the angels trod
Me and God
Early in the morning talking it over
Me and God
Late at night talking it over
Me and God
You could say where like two peas in a pod
Me and God
He's my Father
He's my friend
The beginning
And the end
He rules the world
With a staff and rod
We're a team
Me and God
I am weak and he is strong
Me and God
He forgives me when I'm wrong
Me and God
He's the one I lean on
When life gets hard
Me and God
He's my Father
He's my friend
The beginning
And the end
He rules the world
With a staff and rod
We're a team
Me and God
He rules the world
With a staff and rod
We're a team
Me and God
We're a team
Me and God

So you didn't actually post those lyrics! That's okay, I went to his website. Very impressive! What a great song! And deep voice! I like it!

Another country song:
(sing in a slooooow drawl)
I shot my dog because he howled all night
My wife got mad and kicked me out after that fight
Now I sleep in the stable with my horse named Lou
And I gotta eat leftover possum stewwwwwww!
My name is cowboy Bruce
I make a living twirling a rope made into a noose
Some say twirling is feminine and gay
But us folks say it is just the country way
:)
I'm with you Karen. I like country as well for much the same reason. It is one of the few genres out there where there are at least a few believers singing their faith and being heard.
That said, Karen want a few of my old CDs? I have a bunch I don't listen to anymore and country fans are hard to come by these days.
Morbid Lynette, Morbid!

I agree with Kristina. Morbid comment Lynette. I'm guessing that you did not even go to the link and listen to the song. Closed minded people.....
And Brian, what kind of old CD's are we talking about? If its the good old stuff like John Michael Montgomery, Brooks and Dunn, Garth Brooks, Diamond Rio, etc. I'd gladly take it off your hands. You are right, there are very few of us around today who appreciate a good thing like country music.
Many of the CDs up for grabs are on that list. Come for lunch on Sunday and see for yourself.
