Me, a doctor?

So I think I can likely say that this past semester was the hardest one of my academic career in that I found it very very hard to do my schoolwork. I mean, I quit one of my jobs in March, thinking this would relieve some of the stress I was feeling because of schoolwork but all it really meant was that I had more time to procrastinate with. Several of my professors gave extensions on major assignments this semester because some of my classmates whined. It didn't really matter to me because I planned to have my assignments done for their original due dates. Now, in my first or second year of university that would have been no problem because I would have been motivated and self-disciplined enough to get 'er done (in the words of Larry the Cable Guy). But in my fourth year, it meant that when the original due dates rolled around I had barely started on my final projects, meaning I was working on all of my final projects in the last week of school. Of course, this meant several late nights and not exactly stellar work. I was kind of worried about how well I would do, considering one of the projects was a term paper and I really struggle with writing in the first place. Usually I spend at least a week researching and writing term papers and I only spent a couple of days researching and writing this one. As my final marks started coming in, I was somewhat disheartened as my marks were lower than I usually get. On Tuesday I wrote my last exam of the semester and was happy to be finished with the semester.....then I picked up my term paper.

I had previously checked my mark online as our professor had posted the term paper marks so I knew I had done well....exceptionally well actually. I have never in my life received over an 85% on a major paper. I just cannot seem to write super well. However, on this paper, I received a 95%!!!! I was blown away and when I got the paper back I saw that my professor had written a long paragraph of comments at the end of the paper as well as some lengthly comments in the margin. When I began to read what he wrote, I was walking in the hallway. I had to stop, sit down and reread what he had wrote. He started out by complimenting me on the thorough work I had done (For an 8 page paper I had over a page worth of references). Then he went on to say that I should seriously consider looking into getting this paper published. PUBLISHED!!!!! I couldn't believe it! I mean, I never thought I would be capable of writing anything that anyone would ever think worthy of publishing! My paper was on causes of Attention Defecit/Hyperactivity Disorder and ways to prevent it. Since I was fairly tired when I was writing it, I asked a friend to review it to make sure it made seI'd better not get too far ahead of myself though because I might not be able to find a journal that will take it. But if I could......nse. When she was done reading it, she replied "Are you a doctor or something?". She said it was way over her head. I didn't think it was that technical, but then again I kind of like science. Anyways....my prof said we could look for journals or other publications that would take it. I'm definitely worth taking him up on his offer.....I mean, me! Published! Even the thought of going through the process of trying to find a publisher to take it blows my mind! And if I could find a journal to take it........well......I can't even imagine!

Now THAT is hilarious. I mean a spam comment about education and how easy it is to obtain any degree in less than 2 weeks...especially on this particualr blog. I think you spent about 2 weeks on your ADHD essay alone. Who knew it was so easy?? I feel like my 5 years of school is now a waste when apparently I could have done it in 2 weeks!!

Well Dr.Shantz, I guess you best be making your phone call to the number they have provided. Quit bugging me to read your essays. My head is still numb with whatever it is I read that night. :)

Great work. I am proud of you...

Glad you didn't get me to proofread that sucker! I prolly wouldn't have even got past the first sentence without checking the dictionary. You are a gem and my sister! Woohoo! Way to work your butt off and kick some serious gluteous maximus on that paper. There I said one big word, wait....make that TWO big words...I think your big wordage is rubbing off...okay maybe not. But the point is...you are a smart girl....keep reaching for those stars!
