That's where I come from, that's who I am
Yes, all of you country fans will recognize the title as a quote from Paul Brandt's song "Small Town, Big Dreams". It really sums up how I feel about the farm. I just got back from a visit to the farm. I love going to the farm because it gives me time to refocus and remind me of who I am. There are no mindless distractions there: we only have 2 T.V. channels and Mom and Dad don't have the Internet. When I go to the farm, my world is technologically silent. I do not spend my time mindlessly in front of the television or computer. Rather, my hours are spent going for walks, helping Mom in the kitchen or in the garden or with whatever is going on depending on the season. Being on the farm reminds me of much more productive ways to spend time. I know that since I have moved to the city I have become lazy. Being on the farm this weekend and helping Mom with garden stuff reminded me that somewhere deep down inside me there is a Karen that is a hard worker and loves to work with her hands. Being on the farms reminds me of all the hopes and dreams I had growing up, of the ambitious person I once was. Sometimes in the city everyone seems to have it all together and I feel like a failure because I don't have my whole life planned out. Being on the farm just reminds me of the potential that is within me. Seeing my parents hopes for my future inspires me.
The farm is also a good place to go for some peace and quiet. I just marvel at how silent it is in the morning when you wake up. Its as if the whole world has stopped in that moment. Well, that is until the farmers get out in the field and start harvesting (which I didn't see a lot of when I was at home because it was raining). The air is fresh and clean and you can hear so much that you seem to miss in the city: the birds singing in the morning, the gentlest breeze in the leaves of the trees. AHHH......I love the farm. It is where I long to be someday.

Sounds like your farm is a great place!
I totally feel the same way as you about the farm. I sometimes miss our farm so much as well! We had a huge garden and acres and acres of grass to play on, fields to run through, animals to play with, bales and trees to play in. I especially miss the farm during the harvest. Taking meals out to the field, riding the tractor, driving the truck, going with dad to the elevator. Someday I want to have a small farm as well.
yes, you are so right sister! I know EXACTLY how you feel....geez we must be related or something;). I never realize how much I appreciate tranquiltiy and time to think and reflect on the carefree days we had as kids until I go to the farm. The city could never measure up! My dream is to raise my kids on a farm of some kind. I love the farm life...it's my life-long passion...someday girl, you and me are goin to marry farmers and April too!
Love ya lots:)
kat
Karen and Kat...
Maybe it is me and all the drugs I took last night but I think I have regained my wits about me (however it is 6:30am). I am reading some kind of confession here? Kat says "you and me are goin to marry farmers one day and April too!"
I know April is a cool roomate and all but marrying her just seems a bit out of the ordinary...especially for you two. Oh well, maybe you are more liberal than you are letting on to with me.
Congrats on your upcoming nuptials! (*nuptial*...that word sounds like a good word to replace the word 'snack' with..."I am going to nuptial on this popcorn.")
Okay, so the drugs are still in me. Thanks for hanging with me at "Chez RGH"
Love you both!
your right - your farm is nice and tranquil... I feel like that when I'm there and I never even grew up there...
Oh... the Shantz's... how sad it will be to "leave the farm"... I wonder what will happen for my family - now that we're losing the farm and all... ugh... :( so sad...
love you all
Becca
marrying April too? Say what? LOL. Yes Lynette, lay of the drugs:P. No, April, Karen and me need to all marry farm boys...yes, farm boys.
Totally agree with you! The farm is my sanity - clear my head - get some perspective. Although - I do not want to marry a farm boy. He can be a farm boy, just not live there!
